SAT,
GMAT, ACT – Understanding Examinations
SAT, GMAT and ACT are standardized tests, which
are held for admission and educational assessment
of a student. These are standard tests, which
check the academic achievement and knowledge of
a person in a particular area of study. They are
essential to getting admitted to a good college
or university; and, the more prestigious the school,
the more challenging it is to get in, requiring
better scores.
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) includes test
in English, mathematics and science. The American
College Test (ACT) is designed to test the skills
in English, mathematics, reading, and science
reasoning. A student has to take these standardized
examinations as colleges consider them necessary
to give admission to students based on their scoring.
SAT and ACT can be called college admission tests.
ACT is an achievement test and SAT is an aptitude
test. Students can choose to take one of these
two standardized tests or both of them as per
their preparation. Students can register for the
test either online or taking a form from the office.
The tests are held at different times of the year
on a fixed schedule year and are considered important
determinants for getting into a good school of
your choice. Counselors who give educational advice
to students generally also provide consultation
on how to prepare for these examinations.
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
is a graduate school test. This test is helpful
in getting admission in the business schools.
This test helps in assessing whether a student
is eligible for an MBA or management program or
not. This is a criterion for many US and non-US
career courses.
The Internet is a good resource that helps you
prepare for these tests. There are web sites,
which inform you about the important information
of these tests, the test dates, the kind of questions
these tests have, duration of the test and all
the related information to these tests. One can
also take counseling before applying for these
tests.
As compared to the normal university examinations,
these tests require a great deal of more hard
work and preparation. These tests are important
as they decide whether a student will get admission
to the top tier college or university of your
choosing.
These tests are also helpful in testing a student’s
skills. To learn the techniques of passing these
standardize tests many preparation courses are
held. The sooner one starts preparing for these
tests the better it is. The most popular test
preparation companies for SAT, ACT and GMAT are
Kaplan and The Princeton Review.
